Discussion event – Learning from lived experience: the road to early intervention in psychosis services in Scotland

January 12 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

  • « Winter Wellbeing Gathering
  • CAPS Independent Advocacy’s Drug and Alcohol Advocacy service webinar »

Scottish Recovery Network is made up of members of the lived experience reference group and are sharing this event information on behalf of this group.

Experiencing psychosis can cause considerable distress, for both those who are affected by it and their families and carers. There are around 1600 new presentations of psychosis in Scotland every year, so ensuring that people who experience psychosis get the right help and support quickly is vital.

The Early Intervention in Psychosis Reference Group would like to invite you to participate in a discussion event – “Learning from lived experience: the road to early intervention in psychosis services in Scotland.” The reason this event is happening is to capture people’s experiences, to influence the future of early intervention services for people with psychosis. We especially would like to hear from individuals who have personally experienced psychosis, partners, immediate family, or carers who have experience of supporting someone affected by psychosis.

The Scottish Recovery Network is working with Healthcare Improvement Scotland and the Scottish Government to ensure that people with lived experience are at the heart of the Early Intervention in Psychosis Engagement Project, by making their voice heard and fully involving them in improving care and treatment for individuals, families and carers who are affected by psychosis. We are holding 2 events in January and want to hear from you about what would have helped you and what would help others so that we can inform decision-makers.

Dates and times:

  • Tuesday 12 January 11.00 am – 12.30 pm
  • Wednesday 13 January 2.00 – 3.00 pm

Each day will start with a welcome from your host, Hamish Kidd – Engagement Project Worker Early Intervention in Psychosis, Support in Mind Scotland and April Masson from Healthcare Improvement Scotland. The main part of the event will be the chance for small group discussions based on the following questions:

How can care be made more accessible?

What does early intervention mean to you?

Thinking of your experience, what would have helped?

If you are interested in taking part, please email Hamish  and tell him what day you would like to attend HKidd@supportinmindscotland.org.uk

Please be advised that there may be issues discussed which some may find triggers a memory or strong feeling/emotions. If this happens please do not feel you have to stay in the session. You may want to have someone with you for support or arrange to have someone to talk to following the discussion. There are limited places so please book as soon as you can. You will receive confirmation of your booking, and a link to the online event, by email.

Please contact Hamish directly if you have any questions or require further information.
