MELD offer confidential support, information and advice to people affected by substance misuse, including friends and family.
The core service comprises a one to one counselling skills based recovery service offering support, information and advice to anyone with a substance misuse issue. Anyone can refer themselves to the Core Service by attending one of the Gateway to Recovery Clinics
As well as the core service, there are several open services. These include:
Peer Support is run jointly with Health in Mind’s CLEAR Project for people with substance misuse and mental health difficulties in Midlothian and East Lothian. It offers one-to-one support in the community from a Peer Support Worker with a lived experience of substance misuse problems.
Peer Support Workers link in with different organisations to offer support to people within services looking for support to go to appointments, going along to groups for the first time. They can advise about services in Midlothian and East Lothian that may be available to them.
Group Work includes family support group and SMART recovery groups, ear acupuncture groups, and walking groups. Please contact MELD directly for information about current groups.
Family Support – This service is for anybody who has been affected by or is worried about someone else’s substance misuse. This service offers one to one support and group work for those living in East Lothian and Midlothian. The service is dedicated to help friends and family by providing:
- Information including drugs education
- One to one support
- Family Support Groups
- Complementary Therapies and stress management
- Family Contracts
NEON– Needle exchange and dried blood spot testing through MELD drop in on Mondays and Fridays from 1.00 pm – 4.30 pm. Needle exchange is also available at the NEON bus, on Tuesdays in Musselburgh and Newbattle.
