Sharing a Story

Sharing A Story CIC is a form of social enterprise which is committed to benefiting the local community. Their main aim is to run shared reading and creative writing workshops for different community groups in a bid to foster social cohesion and improve health and well-being.

Service Description

Sharing a Story run shared reading and creative writing sessions in order to reduce social isolation. The main goal is to empower people to communicate and use their voice by engaging in discussions inspired by books and having the time and space to tell their own stories.

Research shows that empowering people, through creative interventions, can build self-confidence and self-esteem. These sessions will encourage a positive and social focus for people, in a safe and supportive environment.

The Sharing Stories Together Project, funded by a lottery grant, works with day centres in East Lothian (Dunbar, Gullane, North Berwick and East Linton).

Share a Story are also running workshops at Women’s Aid East and Midlothian, for women affected by domestic abuse. This is being funded thanks to the support of a grant from Foundation Scotland.
