Description

EARS Independent Advocacy Service (SCIO) provides independent advocacy to people across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

EARS advocates are independent because they are not employed by any social work department, health board or residential/nursing care home. Independent advocacy aims to ensure that your voice is heard, and gives you the support you need to speak up for yourself. Advocacy can give you control over situations in your lives, safeguard your rights, and provide the information needed to make important decisions.

Independent advocacy exists to:

  • assist and support people to speak out/speak up for themselves
  • ensure that a person’s voice is heard and listened to
  • provide the information you need to ensure that you can make informed choices and decisions
  • assist you to gain control over your situations and lives
  • protect and safeguard your rights

Advocates work in each local community and in local hospitals and can support you to have your say when there are ongoing issues. For example, issues with care, benefits, housing, health.
